Unusual Places Provide Unexpected Opportunity - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Unusual Places Provide Unexpected Opportunity - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Have you ever wondered what others were thinking when they asked you to attend the most unusual events far from the professional style to which you are accustomed? Not the traditional venue Earlier this year, I was asked to speak on the topic of Negotiation at a conference in Reno. On the one hand, I was flattered that I was asked to speak on a topic heavily dominated by men. On the other hand, I wondered how well my time would be spent given the event in its entirety wasn’t geared for my traditional audience. Justifying the time, I viewed it as a weekend getaway for which I would be paid. The good news was I was completely wrong about the value of time spent. Incredible connections were made. In addition, it was the most fun-loving business group I have ever attended. Given I wasn’t stuffy about my “professionalism” but open to everything and everyone around, I found a unique niche presenting better than ever imagined opportunity. The attendees at my session were impressed that I was so friendly and over-delivered value on the talk in spite of my credentials. This very apparently distinguished me from those outside of their industry. In their eyes, my demeanor built my brand. Trust built and connections were made. The importance of the human bond Whether you read Dale Carnegies book How to Win Friends and Influence People or my book, Nice Girls DO Get the Sale: Relationship Building That Gets Results, you will learn that commonality and the human bond between people is the business development piece of sales. Friendship, caring, sharing stories, and building relationships will convert your prospects to sales better than any advanced formula you might conceive. My follow-up meeting with “George” took place at a coffee shop where we were both relaxed, happy and thoroughly enjoyed the time together. Instead of launching into a sales campaign, George began by telling me his work history leading up to where he is today. I was awe struck by his connections. Missing the moment Had I been a snob about attending the event where we met, I would never have had the opportunity of sitting with this incredible man. George’s background provided insight on how I might speak to common bonds and thought. Upfront I told him my experience is much more limited due to having stayed home many years to raise children. He applauded that effort â€" we obviously had much in common. Finally, our discussion centered on all of the advantages of putting video technology to work properly. I described how a client just complained about the waste of no-show appointments incurring wasted time traveling and expense of gasoline and parking. The beauty of the video technology allows users to easily create and post video on most social media sites and in email, blogs and newsletters. The technology also offers video conferencing and webinars thereby eliminating the problem of poor ROI for road trips. George was intrigued. By the end of our meeting, we both recognized that we will be helping one another in the near future â€" making for a very Smooth Sale! There will never be a question in my mind again that unusual places bring unexpected opportunity and works beautifully for furthering developing your brand. Author: Elinor Stutz, CEO of Smooth Sale, LLC authored the International Best-Selling book, “Nice Girls DO Get the Sale: Relationship Building That Gets Results” and “HIRED! How to Use Sales Techniques to Sell Yourself On Interviews”. Elinor provides team sales training, private coaching and highly acclaimed keynotes for conferences.

Would You Know What To Do If There Was An Emergency At Work

Would You Know What To Do If There Was An Emergency At Work When it comes to your work, you’re probably an expert at a range of different things. You might flair in sales, excess at stats or be the best at presentations, but there might be other areas of your working environment that you might want to make sure you’re covered in. If something were to happen, would you know how to act? Emergencies do happen, regardless of how careful you are. So, it’s important to know how to act. If you’ve never been in an emergency situation at work, then you might want to read up on these tips and get yourself prepared. Someone Gets Burned Even if you work in an office, there is always a risk of one of your employees or a colleague burning themselves. If you have a kitchen at work, and regularly make hot drinks, there’s always a risk of someone getting burned by the kettle or coffee maker. If that were to happen, would you know what to do? Treating burns can be quite easy or immensely difficult, depending on the severity of the burn. It’s important that you know how to assess the severity of a burn, remove clothing, cool the burn, and know when to call 911. A Minor Injury Takes Place Sometimes, minor injuries can happen. Someone could scratch themselves or bang their head and you will need to make sure you know how to care for them. When accidents happen in the workplace, they need to be noted of, just in case something comes of it in the future. So, it’s important that you have an accident book, or know where one is in the office, in order to make notes. It might also help to know where the first aid kit is in case you need to use it. Unusual Activity It might not be that common, but it is still possible for mental illness to affect someone at work. If a colleague or employee is dealing with depression, you’re going to know how to spot it and how to help them if they need it. It can help to know what signs of mental health illnesses you need to be looking after. Then, you can work out what you need to do and how you should act. It might also be an idea to notify a senior member of staff if you’re not the boss. Someone Passes Out Something that’s a little more common for a number of different reasons is that someone could pass out. Maybe they’re starting to get ill, they’re overheating, not eating enough or stressed, regardless of the reason for them losing consciousness, you’re going to know how to step up and deal with it. The REST procedure can help and so can any trained first aider. When To Call For Help With so many different illnesses and accidents that can take place at work, it’s handy to know when you might need further assistance. There can be occasions where it’s just not possible for you to help alone. You might need to call in an ambulance or even get Air Medical Evacuation if it’s serious or the emergency services can’t get to you in time. . Image credit. Main.

How to Write Your Profile on a Resume

How to Write Your Profile on a ResumeWhen it comes to writing your profile on a resume, there are several key things you should consider. First, you should know what you are going to write. You need to focus on what the employer is looking for, and what traits and abilities you have that can help you achieve that goal. Knowing your industry, working experience, and education can help you get a great job!One thing you want to look at when it comes to writing your profile on a resume is the amount of space you have available. This is important because you want to be able to put your whole personality into the words. Do not stress over the little things like choosing a font or size. It is okay to over do it if it will bring out your best qualities, but do not do it if it detracts from what the employer is looking for.Another thing to take into consideration when it comes to how to write your profile on a resume is the employment history you have had. Many employers want to see how long you have been employed, and how many years you have worked in your field. The best way to show this is to list your employment dates alphabetically. Also, try to avoid putting numbers and dates that the employer will consider too overwhelming. If you want to show a few work experiences, there is no need to go over the top with big words and numbers.Another thing you want to consider when it comes to how to write your profile on a resume is the details of your education. Many people like to list their college and/or high school GPA and class standing, but this does not mean much. Your writing skills should show more than just your past GPA. It is much better to focus on your future career goals, and how your education can help you get there. As an example, let's say you wanted to get into an engineering career. You could list your technical degree along with a few math and science courses. This shows that you were serious about your education, and that you really cared about getting a degree.Be sure to do some research on your career to see what employers are looking for, and how they are searching through resumes. If you like to write, you can write your resume online. Doing this will keep your resume current and keep you from falling behind.Look at the picture section of your profile. Try to take note of any publications, awards, or recognition you may have received, and include them in your profile. This may be another area where you find yourself overdoing it.These are just a few of the ways to take when it comes to how to write your profile on a resume. The main thing is to keep it as simple as possible, and make sure you don't leave any space that the employer may consider too small. You never know who will read your resume, so do everything you can to get it right.

Whos hiring Yahoo HotJobs provides Top 100 companies

Whos hiring Yahoo HotJobs provides Top 100 companies 0 Flares 0 Flares While this certainly doesnt represent a true top 100 list, it provides job seekers with a chance to view some companies and industries that are experiencing a noticeable increase in hiring.  Strongly suggest that this is bookmarked so you can view it every few weeks.  Find the list at  http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/HotJobs100 Before I go, here are my two cents Health Care companies are screaming for help!  Think I counted around 20 total health care companies on the  Top 100 list.  My math tells me thats right around 20%.   Sounds to me like high levels of job seeker stress is putting people in the hospital bed.  Send them to me please! The Gym and Fitness group hits the list twice.  Maybe those not taking a trip to the hospital have been combating their job seeker stress with trips to the gym.  An unemployed body is apparently an in-shape body. Leave your comments on this, interested to hear what you think!
